Max Carvalho always liked the martial arts, in fact he was born in Brazil, he only got acquainted with the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1998, when he was 18 years old.

At first he saw videos about the "Vale Tudo" (UFC), on which a not too strong built Brazilian, Royce Gracie, overcame adversaries with a much bigger stature than him. That was the time when he thought he can learn this because in this style the technique is more important than the strength.

When he was looking for Brazilian jiu-jitsu trainings near his residence he found an academy in Recife the Gracie Barra Pernambuco state academy. At this time he meet his teacher Zé Radiola who was Carlos Gracie Jr. master's pupil.

Zé Radiola is an charismatic character and because of his trainings Max ordained his life to the jiu-jitsu.

In 2004 Zé Radiola asked Max to move to Europe and to be the responsible leader of Gracie Barra academy in Budapest. Zé Radiola and Carlos Gracie Jr. masters supervise the work from brazilia.
